Exhibition update & a head full of technology and nature

The FUTUR FUSION expo has taken on a life force of it’s own, the first few pieces are finished and looking very cool, been researching solar panel technology to power the expo as it has to be eco friendly and self sustaining.. fascinating stuff, and can’t wait to get my first bit of solar kit.

Finding it quite hard to finance the expo and find work to pay rent but an artist’s life is never about the money it’s always about the process and having the drive to get there and making sure things get made, I may be poor but am thankfully rich in ideas, creative energy and the drive to make it happen

FUTUR FUSION exhibition finally happening

Well it’s official, FUTUR FUSION is off the ground, an exciting new exhibition to be shown at the amazing I.N.C Space building in Covent Garden 11-10-10

There will sculpture by myself, photography by Stephane Grand, and illustration by Sebastian Clark

What an amazing movie. Brutal, realistic, showing the darker side of human nature, unfortunate but true, came out of the cinema ashamed of my own race.. But hope for us bipeds yet me thinks, first step of the road to enlightenment is aknowledging the flaws, then they can be overcome

Feeling very inspired this morning, working on ideas for the new exhibition, keeps changing… as I throw out old ideas for sculptures for newer dynamic ones

Holiday from cyberspace

Haven’t been on here for a while, finally set up Facebook profile and am now twittering too.

Took a long cyberspace holiday after being deleted for no reason by Myspace after spending months and hours developing a fan base and cool profile, really obnoxious customer support.. but i’m over it now and back

Done some cool design work for I.N.C Space in Covent Garden, and Cyberdog superstore is finally looking great. Working on an amazing new android sculpture for the new cyberdog shop

Working hard on a new exhibition called ‘Futur Fusion’ and new website.. hope to have some new pics ready of new work i’ve been doing.. Having a big clear out and upgrade which feels great

Freeks, Geeks, and the snake charmer

We had a little all night party at our place on Thursday to celebrate a friend’s birthday, the music got funkier as the pois and glow staff came out, dancing on the furniture til the early hours of the morning. I woke up to lots of bodies still sleeping, no room to sit so hit the laptop being the only seating available, and a message on myspace to come to a cool party – Studio NEON at egg club, Friday night – dress up, look fab and get in free ( sounds like our kinda party )

The rest of the gang hadn’t brought any funky gear so Angelina and myself raided our wardrobes for some serious accessorizing, which wasn’t so hard, Angelina being a performance artist with an extensive wardrobe of performance couture and myself a futurist stylist to kit out the lads with cybernetic head systems and various club gear. By 10-30pm we were armed, teched, blinged and ready to PARRR-TY

The Egg club is a great venue anyway but the StudioNEON Midsummer Night’s Party was a riotous event attracting all the funky, freeky, uber ‘I’m so on the edge, you’re going to have to send a satellite to find me’ London clubbers dancing their false eye lashes and wigs off. An amazing array of the movers and shakers of ‘Out there’ fashion that keeps London on the list of exciting places to be. The music was a pumping mix of dance electro and the vibe was buzzin as they say. The no smoking ban kind of worked too, people moved around a lot more to go for a quick hit, It made the atmosphere more fluid than usual in a club, more social as we kept bumping into friends in the garden and ended up chatting about events, life and work etc, and bumped into some old club friends I hadn’t seen for ages.

London never ceases to amaze me, It’s often described as a very multi cultural city but look underneath the surface and It’s teeming with a whole ecosystem of creativity and experimental attitudes from all walks of life and nearly every accent and nationality you can think of.. and not just thinking outside the box but thinking outside the solar system, I LOVE IT!

Apocalyptic attitudes, Carbon footprints and Organic Mechanic

Having been thinking for a while about what’s going on in the world, I’ve been planning my next exhibition for spring 2008. Some have described my work as post apocalyptic in nature, which I thought was cool to start with but now find myself wondering if that’s the effect I am going for. Fact is, I want to reflect a more positive and optimistic future through my artwork. After watching the amazing film ‘Children of Men’, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, which is beautifully made and brutally realistic as to how our future might look and how primitive we can be, I was inspired to rethink my own approach towards where we’re heading.

The original concept of ‘Organic Mechanic’ exhibition was to show recycled stuff looking cool, but now I want to give more cultural relevance to the times that we live in and the media’s observations of us humans taking responsibility for our actions. Of course I’m talking sustainable energy and carbon footprint, and how it’s much easier to think it’s someone else’s problem, or not a problem at all. By now, however, it should have dawned upon us that it is a problem, for all of us.

Okay, no more banging on about our responsibilities. Keep it more fluffy, I tell myself. I’ve finally finished the designs, sketches and outlay of what the Organic Mechanic expo will be. Built on a foundation of recycling and recycled, the sculptures are about our relationship with technology and nature. They are a fusion of art, fashion, science and photography, using household waste, industrial waste, consumer products and anything else I can get my rummaging hands on, or on whatever else seems relevant. But I want to apply this in a more lighthearted and intelligent way than just throw some discarded rubbish together and call it art. I definitely feel the need to do something with more meaning than I have done in the past; and if I’m going to inflict my opinions and creativity on the general populace, I feel I should balance them with an element of fun and mischievousness as well as confront some of the more serious issues that we are collectively facing.
